Learning in your pyjamas

Our reinvention from BCANTG staff to BCANTG students is well underway.  I will admit to a slight panic on day one as we discovered the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is one of the most heavily assessed courses within Vocational Education and Training.  The weight of a prospective workload is daunting at the best of times, not in the least when accompanied by thoughts of, "What about our jobs? Whatabout our social lives? What about our families?" But what initially appeared to be a chore, actually became a quite inspiring process.

For me, the penny dropped while undertaking one of my eLearning assessments and I can best describe it as being somewhat proud of myself.  I realised I had the capability and the knowledge to complete a task which two weeks ago I would have baulked at (My job! My social life! My family!) and best of all, I was able to finish the work and have this epiphany while in my slippers. I suspect this might just be the real beauty of eLearning.

BCANTG have a strong emphasis on a mixed mode of learning (eLearning supported by face-to-face tutorials), so the TAA has also led to me donning actual footwear and attending classes with my coworkers. Using a wide pool of individual knowledge we tested our new training skills on each other, holding sessions on food safety, community services counselling and, of course, vocational education.  We were able to clarify assessments and share our ideas as a group, something which really seemed to lighten the load, helped us view our completion as a team achievement and allowed a few giggles as well.

We look forward to our next and final workshop where we'll consolidate and develop on all the work we've done thus far (in pyjamas or otherwise).
